DUNDEE KZN: Nquthu to host first Rural Horse Riding event

TheĀ  Nquthu June event will start on Friday, with a parade that will take place in town with the horses together with a band and Maidens from the Zulu and SeSotho cultures

The first-ever hosting June rural horse riding event that will be hosted by the Nquthu Municipality in theĀ  Mokhonjane area, in ward 15,this weekend, June 4-5.

“This event is taking place for the first time, from now It will be an annually event. The aim of this event is to improve the level of the events that are held annual in the municipality and also to bring development to our area, as Nquthu is one of the places that are in a very deep rural area. Our aim is also to improve it to one of the prestigious events on our calendar, ” said Municipal Manager, SB Mthembu.

“This event will fit well with our focus on youth development and upliftment of our rural communities. The jockeys will be participating in the event are young people from the Nquthu area. There will also be an opportunity for local youth to showcase their talent in arts and culture, with a number of local artists that will be featured in the music extravaganza that will accompany the horse racing action.”

He added that the event will also be bringing the economic benefits for the locals with small businesses being offered an opportunity to sell their products.

“Our aim is for Nquthu Municipality is to have our own signature event that will contribute towards economic growth in our area.” Dundee has held at Rural Horse Riding event since around 2007 which has now turned out to be one of the biggest events in the social calendar.

TheĀ  Nquthu June event will start on Friday, with a parade that will take place in town with the horses together with a band and Maidens from the Zulu and SeSotho cultures. This will be followed by the main event on Saturday, with musical talent show and fashion Show, Action starts at 10am on Saturday.

This race is not a conventional galloping racing event but a trotting contest, with the fastest horse claiming the honours. This is the combination of the two annually events which are used to be conducted on May and December. “Only Horses from under the jurisdiction of the Nquthu Municipality will be allowed to participate since is the first event,” Mr Mthembu concluded.
