Ladysmith KZN: Decomposed body found in caravan park

The corpse was in an advanced stage of decomposition

Bergville police were called out on the afternoon of Friday, May 21, after a decomposed body was found in a hole. The body was discovered by a person who was walking through the caravan park area and noticed an unusual odour when passing a sewerage pipe.

Officers from Newcastle SAPS Rescue were summoned to help lift the body out of the hole. The corpse was that of a male, and was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The cause of death is unknown at this stage, and a postmortem is set to be carried out.

An inquest docket was opened and Bergville SAPS are investigating. “Police are requesting anyone who can assist with information to please come forward,” said police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.
