NEWCASTLE KZN: Senior citizens get the Covid-19 jab in Utrecht [GALLERY]

The vaccinaton rollout programme will run every Thursday from now until March 2022.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health officially began the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine to senior citizens in the Emadlangeni Municipality yesterday (May 27).

According to Communications Officer, Ayanda Mabaso, residents above the age of 60 were vaccinated from 7am at the Utrecht Town Hall.

“The vaccination site will be open every Thursday of the week between 7am and 7pm. The vaccine rollout programme is expected to run until March 2022,” confirmed Mabaso.

He added it was essential for citizens to remember that the Pfizer vaccine is a double-dose vaccine and that meant that once the first dose was administered, it was mandatory for an individual to get the second dose, which would be given after six weeks.

Mayor, Lindile Mhlungu commended the ‘relentless efforts’ of the DoH in fighting the pandemic.

“It is important to ensure all residents are vaccinated so as to intensify the fight against Covid-19 and to ensure that we reach population immunity,” she concluded.
