PEOPLE:
Winner – Vernen Naicker

Honourable Mention:

Melissa Gilbert

The people category was judged by professional photographer, Tersia Olivier who was torn between these two photos.
” In the People category it’s a close call between Melissa Gilbert and Vernen Naicker.
Feedback on Melissa’s photo:

  • Good composition of the photo – excellent depth of field
  • Subject is well exposed – photo quality is crisp and clear
  • The contrast of the purple dress against the dark forest works well
  • The mood of the photo is whimsical (loving the ray of sunlight near her feet)

    Feedback on Vernen’s photo:

  • Goes against every rule of photography
  • Rule of third not applied
  • Angle would have worked better if the photographer had taken the photo at the same level of the child
  • Taken with a smart phone so can’t really judge exposure, depth of field, focus etc. as these are automatic
  • A brilliant photo nonetheless because of the emotion captured. The smile on the boy’s face, the twinkle in his eye and his muddy boots, tell a beautiful story.
Overall, Vernen’s photo is my choice!
