Ladysmith KZN: Resident complains about uThukela’s workmanship

The driveway is now damaged...

A resident of Balsam Avenue has raised concerns about the quality of workmanship provided by uThukela personnel. Mr Reg Kallidin says this problem started in winter last year (2020) when a pipe near their driveway burst. He says they tried to call uThukela, but didn’t get any help; they ended up fixing it themselves.

In November, the very same pipe burst for the second time.

uThukela workers came and fixed the pipe, but didn’t fill the hole they had dug. The family had to fill it up themselves.

In the early hours of May 14 this year, the very same pipe burst again. uThukela workers came to fix the pipe and again left the hole they had dug unfilled… And the driveway is damaged.

”uThukela charges exorbitant amounts. Last time they fixed the meter after the pipe had burst, they said we must pay R14,000. When we complained, the amount was dropped to R8000, which is still ridiculous. Now that they have damaged my driveway for the second time, I will be seeking legal advice. I am tired of all this,” said Mr Kallidin.
