VRYHEID KZN: Congregation receives career guidelines

“Those colleges were not designed for slow learners or failed learners. Not all learners are academically inclined. You can create job opportunities for yourself by learning specific skills at colleges.

On May 2, the team from the Zakhele Foundation (Zakhele Xulu, Siyabonga Dlamini and Siboniso Nsusha) visited the congregation of the Father Madwe St John Apostolic Faith Mission Church of Africa in Hlobane, Nkongolwane area, under the leadership of Bishop JJ Ntshangase and Lady Bishop Ntshangase. Bishop JJ Ntshangase warmly welcomed them at 11am and they were part of the church service until 1pm, when the bishop gave them a platform to introduce themselves and discuss the purpose of the visit. Outlining the reason for them being there, Mr Zakhele Xulu said, “The visit is about capacitating and encouraging church members with all possible ways to prosper. A congregation is composed of grandparents, parents, youth, teenagers and children, and all members need to be encouraged.” Mr Xulu went on to say that, “Zakhele Foundation focuses on community training and educational development, and it is registered with the Companies & Intellectual Property Commission and Department of Social Development.” He then encouraged the Grade 12 learners within the congregation to come forward and be assisted, as well as the post-matric individuals who require information pertaining to learnerships, bursaries and funding. “We acknowledge that there are some people who didn’t pass well in Grade 12. They are welcomed to enroll in TVET colleges for NCV (National Certificate Vocational) programmes because, as from Grade 9, you can enroll at any TVET college in South Africa.” Mr Dlamini encouraged females to get together and form companies such as close corporations to eliminate poverty in their communities. He added that funding is only available for companies registered with the CIPC (Companies & Intellectual Property Commission) or DSD (Department of Social Development). There are various companies that fund small, medium and micro enterprises, like the National Lottery and NYDA (National Youth Development Agency). He emphasised the importance of TVET colleges, saying, “Those colleges were not designed for slow learners or failed learners. Not all learners are academically inclined. You can create job opportunities for yourself by learning specific skills at colleges. Workers with these skills, mostly youth, are hired to boost the economy of the country,” he said. Bishop Ntshangase then allowed a question-and-answer session. It was emphasised that the Zakhele Foundation not only concentrates on Grade 12 learners, but also on training and educational development programmes in any community. “Zakhele Foundation brings hope to the hopeless in society,” Zakhele Xulu concluded.
