NEWCASTLE KZN: Science whiz needs your help getting to California

If you are able to assist with much-needed donations to help fund his journey to study abroad, contact Mlambo on 067 208 0123 or 061 952 9056.

Iziphozonke Mlambo, Newcastle High School’s science guru, will be attending Biola University in California soon.

This comes as a result of Mlambo’s passionate interest in science and his commitment to environmental preservation.

Mlambo recently found out that his finely honed scientific abilities and projects had landed him a position at the private evangelical Christian university in La Mirada, California.

His mother, Nelisiwe Mlambo and sister, Lindokuhle Mntambo said they were extremely proud of what Isiphozonke had achieved thus far and said they were excited for him to start his new journey abroad.

“We are so excited for him because this is going to be an amazing experience. He inspires us and everyone else back home everyday and he truly is our pillar. He is respectful and talented and we are just so happy for him. We are proud of him and truly wish him the best on his new journey,” they said.

Mlambo is expected to be on Campus by August 10.

However, getting to California is proving to be a lot more difficult than Mlambo expected.

The scholarship does not cover his travel expenses or medical insurance, which is needed before he can study abroad.

Here’s how you can help:

To get to California, Mlambo needs to raise R30 000, which covers the plane fare, as well as his Visa and service fees.

He would also need R15 600 ($2 140) to cover the first year’s medical insurance, which is required before he travels to the United States.

“I don’t have much time left,” he said, “but I can’t let go of my hopes of being a world-class scientist.”

If you are able to assist with much-needed donations to help fund his journey to study abroad, contact Mlambo on 067 208 0123 or 061 952 9056. You can also contact NHS Principal, Manny Govender on 034 312 6048 or Mlambo’s mother, Nelisiwe on 066 285 1108.

Apology:

It was incorrectly reported in this week’s edition (May 20) of the Newcastle Advertiser that Nelisiwe Mlambo was Isiphozonke’s girlfriend. She is, in fact, his mother. The Newcastle Advertiser sincerely apologises for the error and any inconveniences caused thereof.
