NEWCASTLE KZN: Three arrested in Osizweni for failing to wear a mask in public
The three suspects were aged 25, 28 and 29 years old and have since appeared in court.
With the assistance of Osizweni Crime Prevention members, an intelligence driven operation was conducted in the Osizweni policing area on Friday, May 15.
According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, law enforcement officials began at Section A, at the KwaMakhanya Shopping Complex.
“On arrival, members arrested one suspect for failing to wear a face mask according to the Disaster Management Act of 2021.”
They then proceeded to Zibambheleni High School in Osizweni, where they arrested two more suspects for failing to wear a face mask.
“The operation yielded positive results as three suspects aged 25, 28 and 29 years old were arrested and charged for Contravening Level (1) of 2021, Act (1) according to the Disaster Management Act of 2021,” she said.
All three suspects have since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
