VRYHEID KZN: Women’s foundation donates sanitary pads

"When I started this project, I dedicated it to women and sanitary pads, but I realised that I don’t want to focus on doing just one thing. That's why I've now decided to also focus on donating cosmetics like roll-on deodorant, bath soaps, toothpaste and many other things one needs in order to be clean. I will be donating these items to both men and women in the community.

Ayanda Mncube is the founder of Aya’s Women Foundation, which was initiated in March 2020.

On Sunday, the foundation donated sanitary pads to women who needed them as a way of celebrating Mother’s Day. The event was held at eMondlo, Epalzini Lifestyle.

Ayanda mentioned that, at first, her foundation focused entirely on women. “ When I started this project, I dedicated it to women and sanitary pads, but I realised that I don’t want to focus on doing just one thing. That’s why I’ve now decided to also focus on donating cosmetics like roll-on deodorant, bath soaps, toothpaste and many other things one needs in order to be clean. I will be donating these items to both men and women in the community. have also noticed that there are many people who do not have warm blankets; for instance an old grandmother who lives with many grandchildren might not have enough blankets for the children and they need blankets to keep warm at night. So I have taken the initiative to also donate blankets to whomever is in need,” she said.

Ayanda says there were close to 25 boxes of sanitary pads at the event, and she is happy that people came to collect theirs. “People came through to get their sanitary pads and even those who were coming back from church, we gave them on the street to take home, because we never know if there is someone who needs them. I still have a lot I need to distribute and on Tuesday, I will be at eBhekuzulu old location to hand out to anyone in need; I will be next to the clinic so that any woman who passes by can grab.”

“I love people so much and I don’t want to see anyone suffer while I can help. I know there are other organisations that help needy people and I just want to let them know that they should continue giving their support. We were all hit by the pandemic, but some households are really struggling, so let’s try and support them in their hour of need,” she said.

Ayanda concluded by saying that women are special and powerful, and that everyone was happy at the event. The attendees were treated to refreshments afterwards. Ayanda would like to thank God, her husband Foreman Mazibuko, Vryhied TFS store, ACR (Abaqulusi Community Radio Station), Dr Nikiwe, Dr Mthethwa, Zinhle Malunga, Busi Dlamini, Lungi Mtambo ,Sinehlanhla Mncube and many other people who supported her and made the day possible.
