VRYHEID KZN: Traditional healer gets life for raping teenage girl

The teenage girl was taken to the traditional healer in the Mahlabathini area by her parents to seek counselling.

40-year-old traditional healer Sfiso Emmanuel Mngadi (40) has been sentenced to three life terms in prison for rape. He was sentenced on April 28 by the Ulundi Regional Court after the court heard how he took advantage of a 15-year-old girl and raped her.

The incident happened on December 12, 2018. The teenage girl was taken to the traditional healer in the Mahlabathini area by her parents to seek counselling. The parents trusted the healer with their daughter in the hope that their child would get better, but instead she was repeatedly raped. While he was raping her, he made recordings with his cell-phone.

The victim’s aunt went to the traditional healer’s place of residence last year and caught the accused viewing his recording. That’s when a case of rape was reported and registered at Mahlabathini SAPS. The docket was transferred to the Ulundi Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for investigation; and a conviction was secured at the end of last month.
