The mother of a 12-year-old girl from Wembezi has instigated an investigation of rape after her 12-year-old daughter confessed that she had consensual sex with her 19-year-old boyfriend.
According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi the 12-year-old and her boyfriend went out for the night on April 21.

“The 19-year-old suspect had consensual sexual intercourse with the minor at Locksloy section in Wembezi,” commented Captain Nyathi.
When the girl returned home at 2am the following day and was questioned about her whereabouts, she told her mother about the sexual escapade.
“Her mother took her to Wembezi police station where she opened a rape case against a known 19-year-old suspect. The police are investigating the case and no one had been arrested,” added Captain Nyathi.
