VRYHEID KZN: Parolee back in prison on murder charges

It is alleged that the victim was at her home in Nongoma when the suspect, who was looking for her husband, accosted her.

The alleged killer of a taxi owner’s wife appeared in court for a bail application on Monday this week. The Provincial Taxi Task Team arrested the 32-year-old suspect in Ulundi on Thursday, April 8. He is accused of murdering Bongi Nhlebela (43), who is a taxi owner’s wife. The suspect appeared in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 9, and was remanded into custody until Monday, April 19, for a bail application. It is alleged that the victim was at her home in Nongoma when the suspect, who was looking for her husband, accosted her. The accused was furious when he did not find the husband and turned his gun on Nhlebela, fatally wounding her. A murder case was opened at Nongoma and the Provincial Taxi Team took over the investigation. An intensive investigation led police to Ulundi, where the suspect was hiding. He was arrested and charged for murder. The suspect is a parolee who was released on March 3 after serving seven of his 15-year sentence for robbery.
