VRYHEID KZN: ‘Spinning’ it up at Easter for the first time

"It is the first time that Vryheid has actually held an event like this.

People had different plans on how to celebrate their Easter weekend this year, compared to 2020 with all its Covid-19 restrictions.
For the first time in Vryheid, Nhlanhla ‘Cucu’ Gininda, Sanele Ndlovu and Try Ntshangase organised an event called the ‘Vryheid Easter Spinning Festival’, where drivers of specifically BMW models showed off their skills behind the wheel.
The spinning took place around an open playground, much to the delight of an appreciative crowd that watched and heartily cheered from a distance. It was a wonderful day for everyone who attended.
The event was hosted by Nonjabulo Nkosi at Emasimini Lifestyle in the area of eShoba. Nkosi is a female radio broadcaster at Abaqulusi Community Radio (ACR) station, and co-hosted the event with DJ PGuSonic.
What grabbed people’s attention was ‘Simpiwe Champion Sbali’, who is a well-known comedian (on social media) living with dwarfism. He announced the festival on his social media platforms on March 26. While the crowds were thrilled by the ‘whirling’ vehicles, Sbali also entertained them with his dance moves on stage.
Cucu, who was one of the organisers, mentioned that, “It is the first time that Vryheid has actually held an event like this. We are known as the people who organise events, so in that way, we decided to do something this year for the Easter holidays. Since the country is open again, we came up with an idea of spinning BMWs as a way of entertaining the community as a whole. It is like a sporting event that we have never had before,” he said.
As an added bonus, local artists had the chance to showcase their latest work on stage as part of the day’s entertainment.
