Ladysmith KZN: Kandahar Avenue flooded after pipe bursts

The area is currently without water...

A pipe burst in Kandahar Avenue this morning (April 16), allowing litre upon litre of water to pour out.

The road is now flooded and the leak has not yet been attended to by uThukela.

“Motorists had to drive extremely slowly, which delayed them getting to work,” said an angry driver.

A local resident says she has been calling uThukela since this morning, but they haven’t responded.

She angrily added that, “There is no water, but water is being wasted as it floods the road. Why is uThukela not doing something about it pronto? I’m fed up, as having no water makes life so difficult!”

The area has had ‘dry taps’ since this morning.

uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza commented that It is a common sight to see a burst water pipe in any given area across the district. He says the important thing to do is for residents or individual household owners to report leaks to the Call Centre so that the pipe can be fixed. “It is their responsibility to do so, because many  times we won’t be able to see or know when there is a burst pipe, given the vastness of our area of operations,” added Mkhonza.

For any water- and sewer-related issues, people are advised to call the uThukela Call Centre on 0860104257, which is a 24/7 service line.
