A female passenger in a vehicle was injured earlier today (April 14) in an ambush on the Helpmekaar Road.
It is believed that a bakkie travelling from the Wasbank side towards Ladysmith was shot at by two unknown gunmen. Initial reports indicate that the two suspects were standing at the side of the road and opened fire on the vehicle.
The driver did not stop, but instead carried on going. The driver was not hit, but a female passenger was shot in the head.

They continued to travel along the Helpmekaar Road towards Ladysmith and were fortunate enough to come across an accident scene where emergency personnel were present. Police and Public Safety officers came to their assistance, with the Public Safety officers rushing the injured passenger to hospital in their own vehicle.
It is believed that the bullet luckily only grazed the side of the woman’s head.
