Ladysmith KZN: Sewage leak an ongoing problem for business in Centenary Road

The smell is unbearable and machinery is being damaged

A business in Centenary Road has been struggling with a sewage leak on their premises for months now.

According to the business owner, they have been contacting uThukela since October 2020 with regards to this problem. District municipality workers came out to have a look in January 2021, but the owner says that excuses are always made to come back at a later stage. To date, nothing has been done to resolve the issue.

The business owner explained that she went to the extent of contacting management at uThukela and the feedback received was that the matter would be sent to the HOD.

She says the smell is unbearable and the machinery is being damaged, as sewer water is all over the premises.

“Customers are complaining and we are losing business.”

The other major concern is the health of the staff, as they work around the area and are at risk of becoming ill.

The infuriated owner says she is now fed up with all the excuses and would like more feedback from uThukela concerning their way forward.

At the time of publishing, uThukela had not commented on the matter.
