Ladysmith KZN: Father dies after brutal assault in Burford

After demanding money, the suspects attacked the man with a hammer, bush knife and knopkierie

Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted robbery after two men were assaulted in a home in Burford on Monday night (April 5).

It was just after 11.30pm when three suspects invaded the home and beat a young male with a hammer when he refused to allow them to speak to his father. The suspects forced their way into the house and made their way to the room where the father was asleep.

They demanded money from the father and proceeded to severely assault him with the hammer, as well as a bush knife and a knopkierie. One of the suspects was in possession of a firearm, but no shots were fired. They did not manage to steal any money and ran away after the attack.

The father was badly injured and rushed to hospital in a neighbour’s vehicle.

However, he died as a result of his injuries before he reached the hospital.

The exact motive for the brutal attack is not clear at this stage and no arrests have been made as yet.
