ESTCOURT KZN: Carjacking suspects nabbed days after Bergville man is robbed

Waving guns at the man, the suspects demanded the vehicle keys

Two men are answerable to charges of carjacking and robbery after they were linked to a crime committed in Bergville.

On March 25 at about 6am, a man parked his bakkie outside his home in Bergville when he was suddenly approached two armed unknown men.

Waving guns at the man, the suspects demanded the vehicle keys. Once the vehicle’s keys were received, the men also took a television set before fleeing in the car.

“Charges of carjacking and robbery were opened for investigation by Bergville SAPS,” said police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Following up on information, The Ladysmith Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, Bergville, Winterton SAPS and a private security company tracked the vehicle to Loskop Road on March 31.

When the team proceeded to the scene, they found two men aged 20 and 31, who they immediately placed under arrest.

The men were charged and appeared before the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on April 1.

The arrests have been applauded by Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya.
