Ladysmith KZN: Resident says “NO” to illegal dumping

"I made them load the tyres back into their truck and leave immediately"

A proactive local resident did his bit to stop illegal dumping while driving along Dry Road recently. He passed a truck with a female driver, who stopped next to the Indoor Sports Complex.

Feeling that there was something suspicious about the truck driver’s actions, the resident stopped a bit further on and turned back down the street to see what was happening.

His suspicions proved to be justified, as he found that the occupants of the truck were dumping huge old tyres.

The furious resident claims that he angrily requested them to kindly not dump their tyres there.

He said, “I made them load the tyres back into their truck and leave immediately!” In a matter of minutes, they had left with their load of tyres.

The resident’s message is: “Why can’t we keep our areas clean? Why dump in an open space? If we all play our part in policing this problem, we can make a difference and make other people think twice before dumping what they don’t want anywhere they feel like. It’s not only the municipality’s responsibility, but all of us in society.”
