WEENEN KZN: One person drowned, three missing after taxi is swept away in river

It is reported that a 40-year-old woman has drowned and two teenagers and an adult from the Mkhize family have not been found

Disaster management teams are sweeping the Mngwenya River in Weenen in an effort to locate three people that went missing after the taxi they were travelling in was swept up in the raging waters on Saturday afternoon (March 27).

The heavy rain and hail experienced in the area caused the river to wash over the bridge and the taxi was trapped in the rapid moving water.

It is reported that a 40-year-old woman has drowned and two teenagers and an adult from the Mkhize family have not been found.

13 other passengers managed to escape to safety.
