VRYHEID KZN: Illegal firearms and over 80 rounds of ammunition recovered by police

"The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any crimes in the country," he said

An AK-47, a revolver and a pistol, together with 81 rounds of various kinds of ammunition, were recently recovered by police officers from the Ulundi Tactical Response Team and Ulundi SAPS. The team sprung into action after receiving a tip-off about a suspicious-looking vehicle with three occupants carrying illegal firearms. The men were on their way to the Nongoma area and were intercepted by police along the R66 at the Swart Umfolozi Bridge. The three suspects were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. They will be profiled to link them to any other possible serious and violent crimes in the Zululand District and surrounding areas. The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya, commended the team on their swift response. “The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any crimes in the country,” he said.
