NEWCASTLE KZN: Laboratory delays force postponement in Rafferty case

Siyabonga Macu and Doctor Ngwenya appeared in the Newcastle Magistrates C Court once again.

The first two accused in the murders of Glen and Vida Rafferty last August, Siyabonga Macu and Doctor Ngwenya appeared in the Newcastle Magistrates C Court today (March 25).

Prosecutors for the State requested yet another postponement in the matter however. According to Ms Hlatshwayo, DNA reports are still being awaited from the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory.

Despite attempts by the legal representatives of both Macu and Ngwenya, Magistrate Sibisi granted postponement in the matter until April 16, stating delays with the forensic reports could not be helped amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Both suspects remain in police custody.
