ESTCOURT KZN: Spruce-up for animal shelter

A work party was held at the shelter recently and some of the committee members braved the scorching heat to make the shelter more comfortable for the animals

The Estcourt Animal Shelter has been a safe haven for hundreds of neglected, abused or surrendered cats and dogs since its inception in 2015.

The committee strives to make the shelter a comfortable place for the animals and aims to socialise and re-home them.

Recently, the animals were on high alert”, as the squeak of a wheelbarrow or the snap of a pair of garden scissors signalled that the humans around them were making some changes.

Public officer Candice Hunter-Smith helps to secure the fence in the dogs’ play area.

A work party was held at the shelter and some of the committee members braved the scorching heat to make the shelter more comfortable for the animals.

Estcourt Animal Shelter chairperson Leigh Fortmann explained that the team was busy securing the play area for the dogs and cats, as well as tackling some routine maintenance.

“Thanks to the generosity of donors, we have received a JoJo tank, mesh wire, as well as paint. Our next project will be painting,” said Mrs Fortmann.
