VRYHEID KZN: Local runners run for a cause

An astonishing amount of over R40k has been raised thus far

Social media has been taken over by the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge. The challenge started last year and due to popular demand was brought back in 2021. This past weekend, some of our own local runners also participated in this very fun, interesting but enduring challenge. In this specific virtual challenge, runners run four miles (6.4km) every four hours for 48 hours. The challenge was initiated by David Goggins, who is a famous American ultra-marathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist, triathlete, motivational speaker and author. The challenge commenced on March 5 at 8pm for 48 hours, but Izette Kruger and her team joined the challenge on Saturday morning at 6am (South African time). Izette’s friend, Emmerentia Rautenbach, together with Bennie Roux (who are both South African athletes), decided to involve the Hanna Charity in South Africa and charged an entry fee, which in turn will all be donated to this non-profit organisation. The Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation supports communities with all the basic services such as playgroups, soup kitchens, skills development, job creation, clothing banks, social and psychological support, and libraries, to name but a few. Izette committed to six of the 12 runs in the challenge. An astonishing amount of over R40k has been raised thus far. Izette says it was a privilege to take part in such a worthy challenge and that it was great fun as well. “A special thanks to my friends Carla Muller, Jeanine Theron, Tarryn Beetge and Ronell Keeve, who were in it with me from the word go! Melissa Scheepers also joined us for two runs and we appreciate that.”
