Ons Winkel is a second-hand (thrift) shop which sells any pre-loved items at the lowest prices, and this will be launching in Newcastle this week.
According to Melissa Nel of Solidariteit’s Helping Hand, the concept of the store is accepting donations to resell.
“We do not purchase any items to resell but we do accept donations of any items, from clothing to household items and even furniture that you are no longer using,” explained Nel.
Those items are sold and ‘converted’ into cash and from these funds, Helping Hand assists students with interest-free study loans at the end of the year, giving them an opportunity they might not have otherwise had to get an education after matric.
“We also provide help with food parcels for families in need and who were approved by our regional social worker,” confirmed Nel.
The grand opening of Ons Winkel will take place on Wednesday, March 17 at 9am at 2 John Parks Road in Pioneer Park.
“This is the first Ons Winkel in the Northern region of KwaZulu-Natal and we would like you to be a part of it! The community is invited to the grand opening as there will be many opening specials,” added Nel.
Janelize Roux is the contractor of Ons Winkel in Newcastle and donations can be dropped off at 2 John Parks Road.
Alternatively, those interested in donating can contact her on 082 517 3779 for pick ups.
“Our local Solidariteit Helping Hand, Newcastle branch will also be there in support of the opening, as well as staff from our regional office. See you there!” concluded Nel.
