Ladysmith KZN: Lone-picketing councillor fed up with water crisis

"The KwaNdaba and eZinyosini areas in Ntabamhlophe have been without clean water since 1994..."

Normally, when communities picket, they form a mob… However, a courageous councillor from Ward 13 in Estcourt, Cllr Lindani Mlaba, decided to picket alone outside the uThukela District Municipality offices in Lyell Street, where he was trying to make his voice heard with regards to water issues.

Cllr Mlaba said that Ward 13 residents have been without water for a very long time.

“Community members of KwaNdaba and eZinyosini in Ntabamhlophe have been without clean water since 1994. Due to that, community members in this area have been forced to drink water from the dams – the same water that is used by the livestock. Some people even dump their used nappies in these dams and community members drink this water.

“Today (March 15), I decided to take to the street to voice the grievances of my community and to plead with stakeholders at uThukela to supply us with clean water.”
