Ladysmith KZN : Nation mourns the passing of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu

The whole nation woke up today, March 12, with the sad news of the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu who died this morning.

King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu had been admitted in hospital for diabetes treatment and he later died in iNkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.

King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was born in July 27, 1948 (72) at kwaNongoma. He was the reigning King of the Zulu nation under the Traditional Leadership clause of South Africa’s republican constitution.

Zwelithini became king on the death of his father, King Bhekuzulu kaSolomon, in 1968 after that Prince Israel Mcwayizeni kaSolomon acted as the regent from 1968 to 1971 while the King took refuge in St Helena for three years to avoid assassination.

After his 21st Zwelithini was installed as the eighth monarch of the Zulus at a traditional ceremony that was held at kwaNongoma on December 3, 1971.

He is survived by 6 wives and 28 children.
