Ladysmith KZN: Well done to the ‘Class of 2020’

The overall pass rate for the Uthukela District was 73.5%

Congratulations to the ‘Class of 2020’; you did an amazing job of staying positive throughout this challenging time of Covid-19.

The overall pass rate for the Uthukela District was 73.5%, a percentage that signifies resilience in the midst of the coronavirus. Ladysmith is proud of each and every one of you for making it this far!

The Ladysmith Gazette conducted interviews with various schools to hear what they had to say with regards to their matric results.

Phumlani Moyo, a teacher at Silindokuhle Secondary School, said that the school “made history” for their pass rate for two consecutive years without outside intervention. Mr Moyo said that the pass rate has improved from 26% in 2018 to 71% in 2019 and 75% in 2020; with 29 Bachelors passes, 11 Diplomas, 20 Higher Certificates and 10 distinctions.

Itabeleng Tsotetsi excelled with two distinctions in English and IsiZulu. Other distinctions came from Aphelele Mbatha, Mbalenhle Mbatha, Phumelelo Msibi, Zamephi Myaka, Nonhle Ndaba, Xoliswa Khumalo, Snethemba Langa and Samkelo Phakathi.

There was jubilation when the principal arrived with the envelope of results. Although 2020 was a challenging year, the teamwork by the teachers, commitment by the learners and parents, as well as contributions by pastors and members of the business community produced a wonderful outcome. The pass rates were as follows: English – 100%, IsiZulu – 100%, Life Orientation – 100%, Geography – 76.4%, History – 88%, Business Studies – 74, 1%, Accounting – 87.5%, Economics – 100%, Physics – 54.5%, Life Science 59.1%.

Nokwazi Mthiyane, a student from Bhevu High School in Roosboom Phase 2, achieved five distinctions, as follows: IsiZulu – 83%, English – 82%, Mathematics – 72%, Life Orientation – 92%, Accounting – 85%, Life Sciences – 84%, and Physical Sciences – 76%.

The principal of Dr Joseph Shabalala Secondary School, Ms Mazibuko, congratulated all the matriculants of 2020.
