DUNDEE KZN: SPCA project makes a lot of sense (cents)

Your unwanted cents could make a sizeable difference in the lives of animals

Do you have 10c coins you aren’t sure what to do with? Then why not donate them to the Dundee SPCA?

Your unwanted cents could make a sizeable difference in the lives of animals.

The Dundee SPCA has launched their ’10c Project’ and already, the initiative is reaping rewards. It’s not only 10c coins that are accepted; any coins from 1c to R5 are welcome.

The money will be used for the sterilization of ‘underprivileged’ animals, especially female cats and dogs to stop them from falling pregnant.

Some of the coins already collected

Despite being quite new, the fund-raiser has already been responsible for the sterilization of a cat that had her first litter of kittens when she was only nine months old. The cat was dumped, along with her litter of kittens, many of which had died by the time the mother was found.

“Sometimes people view having loose coins as pointless, but the ’10c Project’ is proving otherwise,” said an SPCA committee member.

Coins can be dropped off at the Courier office or at Mr Biltong in the Boulevard Centre.
