Ladysmith KZN: Taxi engulfed by flames while travelling up Harrismith Road

Flames were seen leaping up from underneath the vehicle and from the bonnet as it drove along

Passengers were heard screaming in fear for their lives as the taxi they were travelling in caught alight earlier today (March 5) in Harrismith Road.

The taxi was seen driving up the street with flames leaping out from underneath the vehicle and from the bonnet.

Quick-thinking staff from Tyre Mart (Mark’s Tyres) rushed to help with fire extinguishers and managed to control the blaze before Public Safety officers and firefighters arrived at the scene.

Luckily, the driver and all the passengers managed to get out of the burning vehicle and were not injured in any way.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered around to see what was going on.

Traffic flow in the area was disrupted until the taxi was moved off the roadway.

Public Safety officers cooled down the engine compartment, where it is believed the fire started.
