NEWCASTLE KZN: G4S guards shot during cash-in-transit robbery

Two G4S guards were shot in the 'ambush'.

Two G4S guards have been rushed to hospital after they were shot in a Cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Osizweni earlier this afternoon (March 1).

“The guards were ambushed by eight armed suspects while at Zama Garage in Osizweni,” confirmed a source.

It has been alleged that one of the guards sustained gunshot wounds to the shoulder, while his partner was shot multiple times in the legs and abdomen.

Emergency personnel responded quickly and immediately attended to the wounded guards, who were treated at the scene before being transported to Mediclinic Newcastle for further treatment.

“The suspects fled the scene in two separate vehicles and are currently still at large.”

At this stage, there are conflicting descriptions of the vehicles – officials are on the lookout for either a white Double Cab Toyota Hilux or a white Double Cab GWM bakkie, as well as a Ford Fiesta with ‘NN’ registration plates.

Captain Sipho Nkosi, Communications Officer at the Osizweni Police Station, could not provide further details at the time, as he is not at the office.

The incident remains subject to official police investigations.
