DUNDEE KZN: Former Endumeni Mayor Mahaye passes on

He was a man known and liked for his affable personality

Tributes are pouring in for former Endumeni Mayor, serving Councillor and Dundee Secondary School principal, Thulani Mahaye, who passed on yesterday.

Mr Mahaye had been ill for sometime with a medical condition complicated by Covid-19 and had been admitted to the Newcastle Mediclinic where he passed on.

He attended the final Council meeting of 2020, even though he was not well,  which was held in the middle of December and had been a Councillor for Ward 2 since 2016.  Known for his affable personality, Mr Mahaye served as Mayor from 2011 to 2016.

He survived a serious accident in the Mayoral car during that time and had the personality to bounce back from any personal misfortune.

He was a popular principal and a leader in the SA Teachers Union. He was known in the Endumeni Council for cracking jokes to ease any tensions arising from discussions inside the Chamber.

Current Mayor, Sduduzo Mdluli told the Courier that Mr Mahaye was  a ‘selfless, humble leader’ who respected everyone – no matter the political background they represented. He said a full statement will be released soon.

See Thursday’s Courier for more on Thulani Mahaye who served his community in so many way.
