VRYHEID KZN: Blood donors give the ultimate gift of love

The SANBS will be in Vryheid on the following dates:  - February 20 at PnP from 9am until 1pm;  - February 27 at PnP from 9am until 1pm.

While many celebrated a weekend full of love, with Valentine’s Day on Sunday, a total of 74 units of blood were collected during South African National Blood Service (SANBS) ‘drives’ on Friday and Saturday. This was the ultimate gift of love from donors, as over 200 lives could potentially be saved as a result. The SANBS is still urging donors to donate blood on a regular basis, since stocks are declining and the demand is rising. One unit of blood can save up to three lives and it only takes 30 minutes, four times a year.

To become a blood donor, you must:

– Be between the age of 16 and 75;

– Weigh 50kg or more;

– Be in good health and lead a healthy lifestyle;

– Consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient;

– Commit to donating blood regularly.

The SANBS will be in Vryheid on the following dates:

– February 20 at PnP from 9am until 1pm;

– February 27 at PnP from 9am until 1pm.
