VRYHEID KZN: Community warned against tender scam

Another scam has emerged in AbaQulusi, as some con-artists have seen an opportunity to dupe business people under the pretense that they are Municipal Manager Mr Bonga Ntanzi. These scammers approach companies that have bid for one of the tenders the municipality advertised. They send them an email stating that there is a briefing taking place and claim that Mr Ntanzi has issued a directive that they must pay R5000 in order to get that particular tender. The scammers use a fake email address (bntanzi@abaqulus.co.za) to try and fleece unsuspecting companies / persons; this is definitely not the official nor personal email address of Mr Ntanzi. The municipality would like to state categorically that it will never request any money from any bidder in order to be awarded a tender. People are advised to be on the lookout for these scammers and note that due to Covid-19 Alert Level 3 revised restrictions, no briefings will be held for tenders advertised. Also note that the official email address for Mr Ntanzi is municipalmanager@abaqulusi.gov.za. “It is very inapt that at such critical economic times, there are vultures out there taking advantage of people who are trying to make ends meet honestly. What is even more disturbing is that they are using my name in their attempts to rob people. I would like to advise all those who have received such emails to ignore and delete them, as they are aimed at crippling people financially. Moreover, all those who have bid for a tender must be extra cautious not to fall into the trap of these scammers,” said Mr Ntanzi.
