NEWCASTLE KZN: RTI Newcastle responds to resident complaints

Only 80 people are allowed on the premises at a time, says the Station Commander.

Residents have contacted the Newcastle Advertiser for clarity, complaining the RTI Newcastle office is often closed early despite only allowing limited daily entries.

Station Commander, King Gama has since provided an explanation.

He said while the RTI offices were open from 9.30am to 4pm weekly (plus Saturdays and some Sundays), Covid-19 regulations mean only a specific number of residents are allowed on the premises at a time.

As groups of residents are assisted and leave, more residents are then allowed to enter the premises. However, added Gama, if time in the day is deemed too short, the office is instead closed and those residents in the queue are assisted, after which RTI Newcastle closes for the day.

“We are currently sharing an office with other departments – that means only 80 people are permitted in total.”
