NEWCASTLE KZN: Four arrested for not wearing face masks

SAPS has reiterated that failing to weak a face mask in public is punishable by law.

Residents are reminded to obey lockdown protocols, following the arrest of four residents in Osizweni recently.

The SAPS Corporate Communications office explained that during an intelligence driven operation, focused particularly on drug-related crimes, members were on patrol and also conducted stop-and-searches.

While patrolling on Princess Nandi Street, SAPS officials saw a person not wearing a mask. The resident was arrested for contravening Act 1, Section 34, Sub-section 3C of the Disaster Management Act, which specifies people in public spaces must wear a face mask.

Later, three more people were arrested near a shop in the Osizweni area, for the same contravention of the Act.
