Ladysmith KZN: Young man drowns while herding cattle in Peacetown

A young man of about 19 or 20 years old tragically drowned this afternoon (February 11) in the Peacetown area.

The man was herding cattle across the river, and he was behind the livestock. It is believed that he was with a few other boys who told him not to go into the water, but he ignored their advice…

The man struggled in the current and was swept away.

Warrant Officer Jacques Meyer from the Ladysmith K9 Search & Rescue Unit responded to the scene, along with other police officers.

W/O Meyer went into the fast-flowing water and searched a section of the river, but no body was found.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene to see what was going on.

The search for the man will continue tomorrow (February 12).
