VRYHEID KZN: Sasko residents unhappy about the state of their roads

"They will come here looking for votes. I, for one, will never again give my vote and God will judge them."

Sasko area residents are concerned about the condition of their roads.  The general consensus is that the roads were bad and the recent heavy rainfall has compounded the situation by damaging the road surface even more.

Michael Ntshangase, a resident who is deeply concerned about this issue, says the roads were meant to be reconstructed last year, but to date they are still the same.  “We don’t have any roads here; we find it difficult to drive our vehicles and move around. We are tired of the municipality, as they should come and see what we are going through. We voted for these people and all they do is drive around in big cars. They have forgotten about us; we don’t matter to them.”

He went on to say that you will only see them (councillors) come election time.  “They will come here looking for votes. I, for one, will never again give my vote and God will judge them.”  Some members of the municipality are said to know about the roads issue as the new RDP houses in Sasko. “The municipality knows everything that is happening here. When they come to Sasko to fix certain things, they never approach this side of the area because they know the roads are bad. They drive their cars far away from these roads,” Ntshangase complains.

The Vryheid Herald has tried numerous times to get comment from the ward councillor and ward commitees, with no luck. At the time of going to print, no response had been received.

A follow-up story will be done regarding this issue.
