A horrific crash between a truck and a taxi has resulted in four deaths and several injuries.
The incident occurred about 20 kilometres outside Newcastle, along the R34 Memel Road. At this stage, a journalist at the scene has indicated that traffic officials intended to close off a portion of the road, from both the Newcastle and Memel directions.
According to a paramedic on scene, the drivers of both vehicles were injured.
Motorists are currently being diverted at the entrance to Newcastle from the Memel side and should seek alternative routes if heading in the direction of Memel/Vrede.
