Ladysmith KZN: Expect dry taps tomorrow

Frequent water interruptions can be expected during the Commissioning Test of the pumps and pipeline

The water supply in Acaciavale and part of Steadville will be interrupted tomorrow (February 4).

Expect dry taps possibly throughout the day.

uThukela District Municipality is embarking on implementing Lombardskop Feeder Main and Appurtenant Works, comprising the construction of a DN500*7750m long continuously welded steel potable water pipeline and appurtenant works, refurbishment and re-equipment of the Abattoir Pump Station with new pumps, variable speed drives and electrical switchgear.

Also, integrity assessment of the Abattoir Pipeline immediately upstream of this pipeline, and refurbishment of the Lombardskop Reservoir.

In addition, the provision of a pedestrian / pipe bridge to accommodate this pipeline and a future DN600 sewer rising main over the Klip River is a key component of this project.

The contractor is required to conduct a Commissioning Test of the pumps and pipeline to ensure the effective operation of the system and that it meets the design and specification of the contract. This commissioning of the pumps and pipeline is planned to be conducted tomorrow (Thursday, February 4) from 9am to 4pm.

During this commissioning, frequent water interruptions can be expected in the Ladysmith community (ie Acaciavale and part of Steadville) in-between the times mentioned.

“Apologies for the inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience and understanding,” say uThukela District Municipality.
