The pothole plague has many motorists up in arms as the roads through the municipal area continue to deteriorate. While the municipality has vowed to ‘declare a war on potholes’, residents in the Mpati area decided to take up the struggle themselves.
Led by long-time resident Malan Nel, volunteers moved in to repair potholes in Majuba Street. They have now challenged residents from other areas to do the same, as they believe that ‘only ordinary people can make a difference’.
There is also a move among residents to tackle the weeds that are choking most of the sidewalks in especially Dundee.
The invaders are taking over pavements in especially Tatham and McKenzie Streets which in turn has caused the sidewalk pavings to crack.
Residents who spoke to the Courier said it was ‘easier to see a lion in Dundee than a Municipal worker removing the weeds from sidewalks’ so they have decided to go ahead themselves to tackle the weed challenge.
