DUNDEE KZN: Craigieburn residents up in arms over dumping, speeding, ‘liaisons’

“The noise from the quad bikes/ motor bikes has become such a nuisance as well"

Sexual liaisons in so-called Panty Valley, illegal dumping and a general disregard for law and order have disrupted life in tranquil Craigieburn.

Some residents say they moved to the area to escape ‘those problems which they encountered while living in town’.

However, it appears as if the anti-social activities have followed them – with the tarring of McPhail Road exacerbating the problem, residents said.

Resident, Nandi  Zaloumis, said ‘the speeding on McPhail Drive has become terrible’.

“The speed limit is 40km however I have caught a vehicle going well over 100km and have reported them to their business.

There is also a large increase in illegal vehicles being used including under aged people driving quad bikes (without helmets). To fully grown men flying around on the road and when approached they insult us and speed away.

“The noise from the quad bikes/ motor bikes has become such a nuisance as well. We are all entitled to peace and quiet however people are not respecting that. “

She added that the Traffic Department had been contacted to increase the patrols especially over weekends. Superintendent Frik Coetzee of the Endumeni Traffic Department said ‘patrols have been done in the area, Craigieburn, without success.

That road is not that busy to justify speed timing. In any event there are plenty of strategically placed speed humps on McPhail Drive to control speed. Illegal dumping should be reported directly to the Parks and Gardens section of the Municipality.”
