The driver of a small car was killed instantly when his vehicle was hit by a truck on the N3 near Van Reenen.

The driver of the car is from Ladysmith and his identity is being withheld pending notification of the family.

It is believed that the truck’s brakes failed and the driver lost control going around a bend as the vehicle descended Van Reenen’s Pass.

Emergency services are still at the scene.
