The Newcastle Advertiser met with acting Station Commander, Colonel Mike Nkosi this week to discuss festive season crime and Covid-19 regulations.
Col Nkosi has provided a breakdown of what fines face transgressors of coronavirus laws and which offences SAPS will be monitoring for.
The fines breakdown is as follows:
Failure to confine to a residence (breaking the curfew) – R3 000 admission of guilt fine
Operating during prohibited hours (churches, gyms, casinos etc) – R3 000 admission of guilt fine
Not wearing a face mask (enforced only if you refuse to comply with official instruction to wear a mask) – R300 admission of guilt fine
Public transport: failing to abide by regulations (i.e. allowing passengers to board without a face mask) – R300 admission of guilt fine
Public transport: exceeding the maximum number of occupants – R3 000 admission of guilt fine
Businesses: exceeding the maximum number of occupants – R3 000 admission of guilt fine
Sale or distribution of liquor – R3 500 admission of guilt fine
Transport of liquor – R2 500 admission of guilt fine (excluded are those transporting alcohol for use in making disinfectants or sanitising agents, or those transporting alcohol to and from licenced facilities)
