ESTCOURT KZN: Hiker rescued after a fall in the Drakensberg

Paramedics and volunteers hiked 3km to reach the hiker who had sustained serious injuries

Emergency personnel and staff from a resort in the Drakensberg worked together to rescue a hiker who had taken a nasty fall yesterday (January 9).

After receiving the call for help, paramedics and volunteers hiked 3km to reach the hiker who had sustained serious injuries.

Due to the mountainous terrain, the injured hiker had to be carried out, while the rescue crew navigated 4kms of rugged terrain.

Once brought to safety, the hiker was taken to hospital for further treatment.

“A special thanks to the resort staff and Okhahlamba Fire Rescue Service for helping to access and carry the patient out,” commented Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha.
