Ladysmith KZN – Going back to school during the coronavirus pandemic

E-learning has been introduced and encouraged by government

Whether to send their child back to school during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is one of the hardest decisions to make for any parent. The biggest worry for all parents is their child’s safety / the hygiene measures taken at the school.

There is no vaccine yet for this virus, but government insists that people practice social distancing and other safety measures liking wearing a mask to reduce the number of infections.

As this pandemic is not over yet, let’s get used to teaching children all the protective measures so they can stay safe.

As much as school is a place of learning, it also creates friendships for kids and teaches them social skills. So telling kids not to be in groups or to avoid certain things is often not taken seriously by the learners.

Covid-19 transmission and protective measures

  • Masks should be on at all times.
  • Carry a bottle of sanitizer.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Limit group gatherings during lunch breaks.
  •  Often clean and disinfect stationery and desks
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow.

A new learning system known as E-learning has been introduced and encouraged by government in many schools, and that’s the route many schools in the country are going – including for the 2021 syllabus.

Despite all of the challenges of teaching in the time of Covid-19, teachers have found some silver linings through technology. Most teachers are happy with this system, because they believe that many families are now more involved in their children’s education.
