Ladysmith KZN: Minister of Police arrives in town with a stern warning for citizens

The visit forms part of efforts by the police to tighten the grip on crime this festive season

Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, is in Ladysmith today (December 24) as part of the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour. He arrived this morning and addressed police officers on parade at Settlers Park, giving a strict warning to all citizens that they must adhere to all the rules and regulations in place.

The visit forms part of efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to tighten the grip on crime this festive season.

Minister Cele, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula (Provincial Commissioner of Police in KwaZulu-Natal) and top management in the SAPS have assessed the effectiveness of the Safer Festive Season plans put in place to ensure that residents and holiday-makers are safe and feel safe during the holiday season.

Minister Cele also said that he was in talks with Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize last night (December 23), who gave him the Covid-19 statistics for the last 24 hours, which are incredibly high. It was also said in the talks that the worst is yet to come.

Minister Cele added that South Africans “must behave for the sake of yourself and behave for the sake of the rest of us, and South Africans are just not behaving at all!”
