NEWCASTLE KZN: Mayor spreads festive cheer at children’s home

Newcastle Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba had a special message for the children at Morester Children's Home.

In the spirit of giving during the festive season, Newcastle Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba spread the cheer by treating Morester Children’s Home to a wholesome dinner.

he Newcastle Municipality’s Governance Manager, Sli Kubheka, attended on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and shared a special message from the mayor with staff and children.

“The festive season is a time to share and spread goodwill as well as a time to renew our spirits and reflect on how blessed we are,” said Ms Kubheka.

“This year, one of the biggest blessings for us all, is merely to be alive and for that, we must be grateful. Today, the mayor is spreading his spirit of generosity so that one day, you might also do the same. We learn to do good by witnessing the good done by others,” she commented.

“Dr Mahlaba wants to emphasise that you can achieve anything, despite an unfortunate background. He urges each one of you to study hard so you can change your fortunes for the better.”

In conclusion, Ms Kubheka wished the children a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year and reminded learners to take advantage of the mayor’s bursary programme, offered by the municipality, once they had applied to study at tertiary institutions.
