NEWCASTLE KZN: Mediclinic temporarily withdraws visiting hours

Mediclinic has taken the decision to temporarily withdraw visiting hours in light of the evolving second wave of the pandemic.

Due to the evolving second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in an effort to ensure it is best managing the risk to patients and staff, Mediclinic has taken the decision to temporarily withdraw visiting hours.

In a statement issued by Mediclinic Southern Africa and sent to the Newcastle Advertiser by Mediclinic Newcastle’s General Manager, Japie Greyling, it was said that while Mediclinic understands visiting hours are important to patient recovery, it is believed this is currently the most appropriate decision.

The new measures will be in effect from today (December 21).

“It is important to note there will be exceptions to these visitor measures,” said the statement.

These are:

  • Visits to Neonatal ICU (one parent at a time)
  • Visits to paediatric unit (one parent may live in with child)
  • Visits to maternity unit (father/partner may visit)
  • Visits to critically ill patients (visits per arrangement with hospital management)

“Mediclinic would like to emphasise that everyone within the healthcare sector is working together to fight the pandemic. We encourage communities to adhere to the lockdown and distancing efforts and to observe all measures put in place within the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients.”
