NEWCASTLE KZN: Arthur Zwane and co-accused to apply for bail

Arthur Zwane and the other men accused of the attempted murder of a security guard, will appear in court tomorrow.

The three suspects charged with the attempted murder of a security guard at Halfway Hardware on November 26, appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on December 2.

Their bail applications were postponed to December 4, according to Captain Sipho Nkosi of the Osizweni SAPS Communications Department.

One of the accused, former eMalahleni ANC regional chairperson, Arthur Zwane has denied shooting the security guard.

According to Captain Nkosi, Zwane along with Bongani Ngubeni (31) and Sibusiso Msibi (39) arrived at Halfway Hardware on November 26 with the intention of purchasing goods.

“The incident occurred between 1.30pm and 2pm. The security guard told the suspects to sanitise their hands before going into the store. One of the suspects complied but the other two refused. A fight broke out between the three suspects and the victim [security guard] and according to information received by the police, Zwane pulled out a Glock and shot the victim. The victim was taken to Madadeni Provincial Hospital for treatment for his injuries. We are not sure if he is still there,” explained Capt. Nkosi.

Zwane and his co-accused were tracked down to Mediclinic Newcastle, where police officials promptly arrested them and charged them with attempted murder.

They made their first appearance in court on November 26.

“All three suspects will appear at the Madadeni Court to apply for bail. They are currently still in custody,” concluded Capt. Nkosi.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
